Over 3.1 million children die each year due to hunger and hunger related disease – undernutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five. The risk of a child dying before the age of five is highest in Africa. About 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across the developing world, 23 million of them live in Africa. Hunger hampers a kid’s ability to learn and leads to poor performance in school. Children who are poorly nourished suffer up to 160 days of illness each year, and undernutrition magnifies the effect of every disease including measles and malaria.

Through our Living Hope food banks and food pantries, ExtraOrd is helping end childhood hunger.
